Self-care tips for moms.

Being a mom is one of the most rewarding and hardest jobs. At times it leaves you exhausted, that is why it is so crucial that you take care of yourself and practice self care. If you are not well, you cannot take care of your family to the best of your ability, as the saying goes “you can’t pour from an empty cup”.

A lot of moms feel guilty when they do things for themselves. However it is necessary that you take care of your needs and wants. I will give you tips on how to engage in self care with a busy schedule.

1. Make sure you are eating well and taking all of your vitamins.

You cannot be your best if your diet is not healthy. When you are getting all the right nutrients and making healthier choices, you will feel better and have a lot of energy to conquer your busy day.

2. Get active.

Make sure you are getting your heart rate up, if you don’t have time to exercise at the gym, you can go for walks with your kids. Go hiking, walk your kids to school. Do yoga at home. The goal is to get you moving so you can release the good feel hormone serotonin we get from being active. And through exercise you are releasing stress that comes from being a busy mom.

3. Schedule in “Me Time”.

As moms it is so crucial that we get to have our alone time, to do what we love. It can be watching tv, talking on the phone, taking a bath, reading a book, going out etc. It can be 20-30 mins a day, it really helps you unwind and destress.

4. Do self-reflection.

It is easy to lose yourself in the day to day family duties and obligations. That is why it is imperative to do self-reflection, this will allow you to be in tune with what your needs and wants are.

5. Stay connected.

Make sure you are in touch with your friends and family. Make time to see your friends and family, squeeze them into your calendar and schedule a time to see them. Make sure you and your partner make time for date nights. Have more playdates with your friends and their kids.

6. Get 8 hours of sleep.

Set a good sleep routine and make sure you are getting at least 8 hours of sleep. A goodnight sleep can help make your day runs more smoothly.

  1. Love this post. It definitely hit me when you say moms sometimes feel guilty when doing things for themselves or having their own time. I feel that way whenever I want to go do something. Which isn’t very often but when I do I feel the quilt 😦 and i ask myself why I feel that way because I know I need the “me” time but the feeling is still there…

    • A lot of moms can relate to you, myself included. We all have that mom guilt, but I am learning to take care of myself so I can be the best mom to my kids. I always remember the quote “you can’t pour from an empty cup” and that applies to mothers. If we are not taking care of ourselves we won’t be able to give our best to our kids.

  2. Staying connected or reconnecting is on my list to do. I put my children and husband first for so many years that I disconnected from everyone else. It is time to get out if my comfort zone.

    Thank you for these tips.
